how to get to the sanctuary

Taxi Coordination & Traveling to The Sanctuary

I will be coordinating Taxi Services for arrivals and departures between the local Tambor Airport or the town of Montezuma and The Sanctuary on Sunday, February 16th as well as Saturday, February 22nd. I’ve done these flights and taxi rides many times and it’s very simple :) I am here for any questions at all!

1.) Arrival by airplane… (Taxis on Sunday, Feb 16th from Tambor Airport or the town of Montezuma as well as the return on Saturday, Feb 22nd are included in your retreat price)
Please book your flight to arrive at Tambor Airport (TMU). It is best to arrive before 12pm the day the retreat begins, however if you would prefer to stay in Montezuma the night before the retreat, I will arrange a taxi from Montezuma to The Sanctuary on Sunday, February 16th.

It is very easy to get to The Sanctuary at Two Rivers - it’s just a 25-minute flight from San Jose International Airport (SJC) to Tambor Airport (TMU) where a taxi will meet you and drive you through the famous Nicoya Peninsula Blue Zone to The Sanctuary at Two Rivers. All guests must arrive at The Sanctuary no later than 4 p.m. on arrival day so a flight that lands by noon is best. Please schedule your travel accordingly.

San Jose International Airport (SJC) is the most convenient airport to travel to. Frequent international flights are available at this modern airport. For your travel, please plan at least two hours between local air and international travel. Please also note that there is a departure tax of approximately 28 USD at San Jose International Airport (SJC) when you leave Costa Rica.

Three local airlines offer scheduled flights and charter services to Tambor Airport (TMU). The flight time is 25 minutes. Please check for flights on either Sansa Airlines or Costa Rica Green Airways, which depart from the Domestic terminal - a five minutes' walk from the exit of the international airport or Nature Air which now departs from inside the international airport terminal but you must clear immigration and customs first then re-enter the building upstairs and check-in at their counter. Please allow at least one and a half hours from your international arrival time in order to clear immigration and customs and to check-in for the domestic flight. Taxi transportation arrangements will be made for you after booking your retreat spot.

2.) Arrival by shuttle…(shuttles from San Jose are not included in your retreat price)
You can book your own shuttle through Montezuma Expeditions or Tropical Tours for approximately 50 USD. Shuttles leave San Jose early every morning and will bring you directly to The Sanctuary. This trip takes about six hours. I haven’t personally done this ride but you are welcome to arrive by shuttle if you prefer rather than taking the 25 minute flight from San Jose to Tambor.

To get to The Sanctuary, ground transportation from San Jose is $260 for up to four people or $60 per person for five or more people (this is a five hour drive). We will arrange a shared taxi with other retreat guests whenever possible but most guests choose to fly into Tambor. Taxi prices are subject to change.

When you arrive at The Sanctuary’s base camp, the friendly staff members will greet you and collect your luggage for transport. I will be meeting you all at a specific time for a walk up the river to the property - it s a beautiful 20 minute / 1km guided nature walk up jungle paths and river crossings into the heart of The Sanctuary at Two Rivers (details will be sent after sign up). And we will escort you directly to your Jungle Loft where your luggage will be waiting.
